Devon Chamber of Commerce is a member of British Chambers of Commerce and has represented the interests of local businesses for more than 200 years. The Chamber is a key partner in the Devon and South West Peninsula City Deal partnership which is working to expand the local economy by supporting the 85,000 businesses across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
International trade is a key priority and the Chamber provides assistance, advice and support for local companies looking to expand their business overseas. We operate the Devon International Trade Club and we have two dedicated business advisers available to visit / advise businesses on international trade. Our in house team of International Trade advisors can assist with a range of services including export documentation assistance, country information and documentation requirements along with guidance on HM Customs & excise regulations tariff numbers, methods of payment, letters of credit and more.
Services for Exporters
- In house training provided by Peter Thompson, covering information from understanding the paperwork to different methods of payment.
- Guidance in completing export documents such as Certificate of Origin, EUR1 and ATR.
- Two business advisers available to visit /meet businesses and advise on developing international trade.
- Enabling businesses to link directly with potential exporters through the BCC Overseas Business Network
- Working closely with UKTI, local chambers and other partners as part of the Devon and South West Peninsula City Deal Partnership to expand international trade

Market Information
Priority sectors for Plymouth and the South West peninsula are advanced manufacturing, particularly but not exclusively the marine sector; medical and health and tourism and leisure. The food and drink sector is growing in importance linked to the excellent local produce sourced on the peninsula and the traditionally important fishing industry.
As well as a range of innovative small businesses, major employers such as Princess Yachts, Babcock Marine Ltd and Kawaski are based in Devon. In addition, the medical and health sector is growing in importance through links between Plymouth University and its medical and dental school, and Derriford Hospital, one of the largest in the country which is a centre for teaching and research. Numerous spin-off businesses are emerging within this sector.
