BOSS DESIGN SHOWCASES FURNITURE AT QATAR-UK FORUM

“It was a real honour to have our products placed in the room where members of the Qatar and UK governments met,” said Phil, who is one of the Midlands Engine’s 28 Export Champions who will work with the Department for International Trade (DIT) to inspire others to either export for the first time or to export more.

Boss Design, the leading office furniture design company from the Black Country, showcased its designs at the joint Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum in Birmingham this week.

Director Phil Duggan delivered a range of the company’s furniture to the ICC and two chairs from the Kruze range, a grey leather Layla sofa, and high-backed Mister chair, were placed in a private room where dignitaries met.

“It was a real honour to have our products placed in the room where members of the Qatar and UK governments met,” said Phil, who is one of the Midlands Engine’s 28 Export Champions who will work with the Department for International Trade (DIT) to inspire others to either export for the first time or to export more.

“We have in place very strong plans for export and prestigious events such as this are crucial if we are to reach new markets.”

The company has worked with the Black Country international trade team since last year as it makes strategic plans to grow its business overseas.

The company, which exports to 14 countries at the moment, has recently invested in manufacturing facilities in North Carolina, USA, and is aiming to enter new markets in Europe and USA over the next few months.

The furniture was included as part of the biggest ever Qatar-UK delegation, which came to Birmingham on Tuesday (March 28) to showcase a global Britain that is outward looking and embraces the world.

As part of the Government’s Plan for Britain to help the country trade beyond Europe, Birmingham hosted the joint Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum, where UK firms exhibited high-profile ‘investment-ready’ projects including in areas such as sport, cyber-security and healthcare.

The Forum is expected to result in a number of new landmark agreements amounting to multi-billion pound investment across the UK, including for the Midlands Engine.

The event brought together Ministers and senior government representatives from Qatar and the UK including the International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox and the Minister of Finance His Excellency Ali Shareef Al-Emadi.

Hundreds of high-profile businesses executives, council leaders and academics attended.

Stefan Szabo, head of the Black Country DIT team, said: “We’re pleased to have helped a dynamic Black Country business show its ranges at such a prestigious forum and hope that its presence there will help it to realise new markets for its office products.”
