Chamber Overseas Network help Verder Pumps Ltd

The Saudi British Business Council recommended a compromise so that the legal venue is now London. Any dispute under the local national law contract will be determined in a UK court which gave me the confidence to sign the agreement, which could generate annual sales of around £250,000 for us and it was best not to delay agreement.   

HELP from Chamber International in putting global industrial pump manufacturer and distributor, Verder Ltd, in touch with colleagues in the British Chambers of Commerce Global Business Network has helped the company make two significant export breakthroughs.

Verder Ltd, Castleford, sought advice from Chamber International, the international division of West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, on how to source a managing director for Verder Pumps India, which it launched in 2013, and how to address a distributor contract for Saudi Arabia which said any dispute had to be adjudicated under local national law.Chamber International senior associate, David Attia, arranged introductions on behalf of Kenneth McCartney, Verder’s managing director, to contacts at the UK India Business Council and the Saudi British Business Council.

Kenneth McCartney says: “Our challenge in India was to recruit a managing director in the short time available in week-long business trips but the UK India Business Council eliminated these difficulties. After speaking with me about our requirements, they managed the whole recruitment process down to a shortlist of two. I carried out interviews online and we have now made an appointment, saving a massive amount of time and still following a strict procedure.” 

Verder Ltd, which was founded in 1955 and is a world leader in manufacturing positive displacement pumps, manufactures and distributes a wide range of pumps, including peristaltic pumps, centrifugal pumps, screw channel pumps,  double diaphragm pumps and solenoid dosing pumps, to a broad spectrum of sectors including chemicals, mining, manufacturing, oil and gas and food and beverage.

 

The Saudi British Business Council was also helpful. “I was hesitant about signing a distributor contract adjudicated under local national law as I was not confident it would protect our commercial interests.

“The Saudi British Business Council recommended a compromise so that the legal venue is now London. Any dispute under the local national law contract will be determined in a UK court which gave me the confidence to sign the agreement, which could generate annual sales of around £250,000 for us and it was best not to delay agreement.   

“While we may have resolved both these issues ourselves, the overseas assistance from the UK India Business Council and the Saudi British Business Council allowed us to do it faster and remove uncertainty. Speed is the new currency of business and we are grateful to them and Chamber International.”
