The UK and New Zealand share a long trading history, the two countries having very similar business, legal and regulatory approaches, as well as longstanding cultural and political links.

The World Bank ranks New Zealand as the number 1 country for ease of starting a business and also doing business, its business sector being well developed and open. New Zealand's economy has been one of the strongest performers amongst developed countries since the GFC and its location makes it ideally placed to provide 24 hour coverage and processing for UK businesses.

Agriculture, mainly through dairy, meat and wool, remains the principal industry so there are ongoing opportunities in the areas of farm machinery, agritech and biotechnology. Other growth industries include film production, healthcare, digital technology, education and tourism, the latter two benefitting from the strong growth in Asian students and tourists arriving in New Zealand.

The UK's reputation for providing high quality goods and services is well recognized and is a competitive advantage in New Zealand. The New Zealand government has committed to £32 billion in infrastructure spending in Auckland and also in areas impacted by recent earthquake damage. The UK's reputation in infrastructure makes it an attractive source of expertise and services. The British New Zealand Business Association has been furthering UK/New Zealand business for 100 years and can assist in making appropriate introductions to local businesses, industry bodies, service providers and UK and New Zealand government representatives, as well as offering general support to UK exporters and investors.
